The Gatekeepers Cottage is the HQ of the Ballarat BotaniKids of the The Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. Each year at the Begonia Festival the group of volunteers provides activities for visitors and families based on learning more about botany nature and the gardens. 2024 is no exception. Activities are free.

Family Nature Fun activities on Saturday and Sunday on the deck under the marquees. The verandah at the front of the Cottage will be a time out place to read and relax for young families. Inside the cottage, you can investigate a range of botanical collections under the new digital microscope. A nature table on ferns for children will be a feature with a guide to help with questions and information.

The Society of Artists will display fern based floral art. This is a new feature this year!

Many ferns will be on display in the cottage to create and showcase the fern frenzy that even gripped humble cottagers at the time.

Workshops and demonstrations will be on offer throughout the weekend.
