Human Beauty an exhibition by Lewis Mc Gregor

Lewis grew up in the Stawell area and always felt an affinity for the Pyrenees, the light and the nature of the country.

His first painting at kinder was of dad driving a Case farm tractor. His main art teacher at school was John Glover of Stawell who was a respected landscape artist. He enjoyed drawing rural scenes and horses and maritime scenes. He studied briefly at RMIT in fine arts which was his original introduction to human form. However, his first paintings were mainly landscapes and maritime scenes and some portraits.

With a young family keeping him busy, he put away his paints and it wasn’t until 2016 that he reconnected to art and life drawing. He attended a fast drawing group where poses lasted one, three, five,10 or 20 minutes. No picture on display took longer than 20 minutes and have not been reworked.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
