5 ways to keep them smiling

Attractions

Making memories (and mementos), getting revved up for some action on the track, enrolling in a Superhero Academy and checking out fun shows about farts. This is just a taste of what’s going to keep them happy this summer.

Ice cream in the Botanical Gardens

1.

Beat the summer heat with a frozen treat. Choose one or two (or three) flavours from the just-opened Timboon Fine Ice Cream, firm favourite Il Piccolo Gelato or grab a tasty cone from the iconic Tramcar Ice Cream Co at Lake Wendouree.

Get lost at Maze House

2.

Looking for a one-stop shop for school holiday fun? Make a day of it at the Ballarat Indoor Go Karts, Laserforce and Entertainment Centre. There’s also a new arcade entertainment zone for post-kart or laser video game action. Other great options include Maze House and the Ballarat Municipal Observatory and Museum.

Train in the Superhero Academy at Kryal Castle

3.

The Superhero Academy arrives at Kryal Castle this January, and it needs some special recruits! Help battle the forces of evil by learning super skills in a range of amazing activities, on top of the exciting jousts, live performances, animal displays, face painting and potion classes!

Make memories and mementos at Sovereign Hill

4.

A visit to Sovereign Hill is a must this school holidays. On top of much-loved activities like watching the red coats in action, panning for gold and coach rides, be sure to check out the Makers Series where you can create a lasting memento using old-world techniques.

All aboard the Golden City Paddle Steamer

5.

There’s plenty more family and kid-friendly things to do. See a show at the newly-reopened Her Majesty’s Theatre (Operation Ouch: Quest for the Jurassic Fart! and upsidedowninsideout), grab an ice cream at the lake, jump aboard the Golden City Paddle Steamer, and so much more!

Stay In the Know

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
