Flying Chillies’ Lilly Wright’s Ballarat In The Know

Familiar Faces

We asked the founder of Ballarat favourite Flying Chillies, Lilly Wright, what she does when she has visitors coming to town. Keep reading to for her top tips and favourites.

Favourite place to eat

We often bring family and friends to Mr. Jones, I love the authentic flavor they bring, and the cozy environment to have conversation, you can feel the love towards the food they bring to you.

Favourite places to visit

My favourite place is always the Ballarat Farmers’ Market, it’s a special place to bring people to see our local artisan products, fresh ingredients, and delicious food.

Favourite nature fix

I live in Canadian and I love going to the Dementia Friendly Forest and Sensory Trail which for me is so calm, you can spot native orchids and bird watching. From there straight to Woowookarung Regional Park lookout, it is such a beautiful view, bring your food so you can have a little picnic there.

A hidden gem

love to end my Sunday with food, Royal Oak Hotel has this Sunday roast that is delicious, affordable, and family-friendly.

When we move here, we fall in love, such a homey feel, full of history. Such a city to represent your culture, and diverse community with 89 countries and 219 ancestries. You feel safe, included, respected, and accepted.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
