Whether you're running, cheering someone on or just in it for the vibes - the 2026 Ballarat Marathon is almost here!

The homegrown event is now the fourth-largest full marathon in Australia, following major cities Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne. Sanctioned by World Athletics, the much-loved event will hit the scenic streets of Ballarat on Saturday 25 April and Sunday 26 April.

With over 12,000 participants expected across all events, both the full and half marathons have already sold out well before race weekend. But don’t worry – limited spots are still available for the 10km, 5km, and mile (1.6km) races.

The 2026 schedule

Saturday 25 April

  • GYG 5km
  • Ballarat Subaru Mile

Sunday 26 April

  • Running Warehouse Marathon
  • Federation University Half Marathon
  • City of Ballarat 10km

All races start and finish out the front of the Ballarat Town Hall, showcasing historic streets, autumn parklands and a World Athletics‑certified course designed by Australian Olympian and Ballarat running legend Steve Moneghetti.

The two-lap course perfectly captures what makes Ballarat a standout regional city – the grand Sturt Street boulevard, peaceful Victoria Park, the Arch of Victory and the shores of Lake Wendouree.

Entertainment will be spread throughout the course, with live music and community groups helping to cheer runners on, while the event village and presentations will create a focal point for celebrations in the CBD.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
