See Ballarat differently on the Roam Discovery Trail

Introducing a whole new way to explore Ballarat – and it starts with your phone!

The Roam Discovery Trail uses QR codes, augmented reality and immersive storytelling to reveal the hidden stories, colourful characters and surprising secrets woven throughout historic Lydiard Street.

From stepping aboard Ballarat's original steam locomotive to uncovering gold rush rivalries, ghost stories and local legends, it's a fresh way to see familiar places through a new lens.

Keep an eye out for the 10 creative wayfinding markers dotted along the 750m route, which stretches from The Goods Shed through to Dana Street.

We suggest you allow around 45 minutes to complete the trail, making it the perfect lunchtime adventure, weekend wander or family outing.

And the exploration doesn't stop in Ballarat!

The newly launched Roam Discovery Trail also extends to Hepburn Springs, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Bridgewater and Hanging Rock.

Download the app via Apple's App Store (coming soon!) or Google Play.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
