Dr Annie Thomas explores the gold rush era satirical magazine, Ballarat Punch and the insight it gives us into nineteenth century views on nationalism, race and gender. This presentation discusses the magazine's publishers, writers and illustrators, with a focus on the 1860s.
Dr Annie Thomas has worked as a psychologist for the past thirty years. Annie completed a Master's thesis on the Ballarat Punch, commencing a PhD in 2024 to continue focusing on under-explored nineteenth century Punch magazines in Australia and New Zealand.
