Performing as part of the Christmas in Ballarat 2025 entertainment programme are The Creswick Brass Band. Led by Musical Director Katrina Bird, the Creswick Brass Band is a vibrant community that has been bringing joy to the region since the gold rush era.

Based in Creswick, just 20 km north of Ballarat, the band welcomes players of all ages and abilities – creating a warm, inclusive environment where beginners and experienced musicians play side by side.

Katrina is the heart and soul of the band, having been member for nearly 30 years and conductor since 2013, she has a rare gift for bringing out the best in every player – whether coaching a nervous beginner through their first notes or fine-tuning competition pieces. Under her nurturing yet determined leadership, the band has climbed from D Grade to compete at C Grade level and take on state and national championships.

But the band's greatest rewards aren't the trophies – they're the smiles in the band room, the applause from audiences, the growing confidence among players, and the tight-knit musical family they've built together. The band performs regularly at community events including ANZAC Day services, Cresfest, Clunes Booktown Festival, and Creswick Market.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
