Ballarat artist Joanne Linsdell grew up on a fruit orchard near Bacchus Marsh. When she returned to the property in 2019, she found inspiration in her late father's cherished workshop.
Over five years, Linsdell set up her studio in the workshop that carried the memories of growing up and working with her father. She closely observed the familiar and everyday items of her father's working life— including various hand tools and the 'shadow boards' they were stored on—and transformed them into fine ceramic objects.
Through an interplay of grief and joy, 'My shadow board' celebrates the lifelong value of hands-on making and shared knowledge.
