The Return, a new play by award-winning writer Ala’a Al Qaisi, comes to Ballarat Performing Arts Centre for one night only on Friday 18 September.
The Return, a play by award-winning Palestinian Australian writer and director, Ala’a Al Qaisi. In war-torn Gaza, a grieving father awaits the return of his martyred daughter through the clouds, until she leads him on a surreal journey to confront her killer, and heal his raging heart.
Al Qaisi is a graduate of Sydney Film School recognised internationally for her artistic vision. Her short films have been showcased at major international festivals such as Cannes World Film Festival, and earned multiple accolades, including from the Malmo Arab Part dream, part reality, The Return is a haunting and visually stunning theatrical experience Festival.
The performance transports audiences beyond the limits of time and space. Through magical realism, poetry, music, and powerful storytelling, the play invites us into a world where the dead speak, the living awaken, and even the deepest wounds become a doorway to transformation.
The Return will host Global Sumud Fotilla Participant and activist, Robert Martin onstage after the performance.
